Nikon Research Macro

1st DSLR: Canon or Nikon? Model? Lenses?
I've been researching cameras for months and am no closer than when I started. I'm new to dslrs but want to learn pro skills. I shoot portraits, still life and macro shots. I need it to perform well indoors/low light, image stabilization, custom settings I can save, live view and compatable with other brand lenses. I'd love a rechargable battery and have about $1000 to spend. I'd also love advice on lenses that would be best for what I like to shoot. Please help, my novice head is spinning!
I know how you feel. There are so many choices out there it is mind boggling. But if you make your list of 'must haves' it will make your decisions much easier.
First off, your budget is your limit and and you should buy the best body you can afford that will meet your needs. That doesn't mean every single bell & whistle available for all your money, but look at the features you really need and will use. On many of my cameras there are features that I never use, but they come with features that I just had to have. Cannon & Nikon are both good brands, just figure out what offers what you need in a good package and has good ratings with users. Check both out a store and you will see which you like better.
When it comes to lenses, there are many, but you can always add to what you have at a later date once you have your body. Start out with a telephoto lens that has a range to it that will keep you happy for awhile....like 35-105 or so. That is a good starting range. There are many good lenses out there too. I had a great Sigma with my 35mm Minolta. You can always get other lenses that are more specialized at a later date as you learn more. You can also add filters to fit your lenses for a smaller amount of money. There are many 'tools' you can add to your bag to 'play' with as you learn. Digital cameras have changed things but are certainly exciting. Photography is a great hobby and can easily lead to an addiction as you see those great pics develop in that view finder/screen. Good luck & have fun!!
